Ambassador Gergana Karadzhova Takes Part in Meeting on Children’s Rights
The Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the UN, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, participated in a meeting between the three co-chairs of the Group of Friends of Children and the SDGs - Bulgaria, Jamaica and Luxembourg - and UNICEF to discuss the Group’s future development and growth, review its calendar for the rest of 2026, and coordinate inputs into key UN processes, with a view to ensuring that the rights and interests of children are consistently prioritized.

Ambassador Gergana Karadjova hosted a group of 13 students from Wilkes University.
The students from the Pennsylvania-based university are visiting New York to participate in this week’s Model United Nations. Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation in which pupils or university students assume the roles of diplomats, discussing global issues within a simulated United Nations General Assembly or committee. The simulation fosters skills in public speaking, research, negotiation, and diplomacy. Participants represent countries, examining topics such as climate change, human rights, and international security in order to draft and adopt resolutions. In this year’s edition of the simulation, the students from Pennsylvania are representing Bulgaria during their week-long participation in Model United Nations.

Ambassador Karadjova meets with Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs
Ambassador Karadjova confirmed the commitment of Bulgaria to the UN Charter and respect for international law during her meeting with Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo, United Nations Under Secretary-General on Political and Peacebuilding Affairs. The two interlocutors discussed the positions of Member States and the UN in relation to the Russia-Ukraine war and the conflicts in the Middle East and Iran. They also agreed on the importance of the security and stability of the Western Balkans countries and the prospects of their Europe integration as part of the regional stability and prosperity.

In her address to the UN General Assembly on the occasion of the seventieth session of the Commission on the Status of Women, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova reaffirmed that for Bulgaria, equality between women and men remains both an urgent priority and a shared responsibility. She added that guaranteeing and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls lies at the core of these efforts.
