Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria Christo Polendakov participated in the Ministerial Segment of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
In his national statement, Deputy Minister Polendakov emphasized that, amid growing global uncertainty and increasingly complex challenges, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development requires effective international cooperation, strong institutions, and full respect for international law. He stressed that Bulgaria regards peace, human rights, and sustainable development as mutually reinforcing objectives and supports efforts towards a more effective and modern United Nations.
The Deputy Minister highlighted Bulgaria’s key national priorities in the areas of sustainable water management, a secure and just energy transition, industrial modernisation, and digital transformation. He underlined Bulgaria’s active role in regional cooperation for the protection of the Danube River and the Black Sea, as well as the country’s efforts to advance innovation, artificial intelligence, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Deputy Minister Polendakov also drew attention to Bulgaria’s integrated approach to sustainable urban development through investments in sustainable transport, energy-efficient buildings, modern infrastructure, climate adaptation, and nature-based solutions.
In conclusion, Deputy Minister Polendakov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s commitment to working closely with its international partners to strengthen multilateralism and advance a more resilient, secure, and sustainable future for all.
