Participation of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York in cultural and educational events during the month of October

During the month of October the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York promoted and/or took part in a number of cultural and educational events within its consular district:

  • Concerts, incl. a concert in New York featuring Teodosii Spasov and Vlatko Stefanovski, which was warmly accepted by the Bulgarian community; performances by Bulgarian Concert Evenings in New York; a concert at Lincoln Center featuring Bulgarian musicians;
  • Folklore festivals and performances, incl. the 6th Annual Folklore Festival “Na Megdana” in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Fall Festival of Kindness in Massachusetts, a performance by “Ludo Mlado” Dance Group, etc.;
  • International Food festival, organized by the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York, at which the Bulgarian Consulate General presented traditional Bulgarian dishes and wines and invited prominent members of the Bulgarian community;
  • The exhibition Ritual and Memory: The Ancient Balkans and Beyond at the New York University’s Institute for the Study of the Ancient World showcasing 32 artifacts representing the spirit and the way of life of the ancient communities, which inhabited the territories of Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe during the early ages of the development of the civilizations;
  • Educational projects by students from the Bulgarian Sunday Schools;
  • Presentation of the literary work of the world renowned Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov at Columbia University.
  • The Consul General of Bulgaria in New York Mr. Angel Angelov took part in a tour of Manhattan’s Jewish Lower East Side, organized by the American Jewish Committee, which presented the history of the Jewish immigration community, living in this neighborhood at the end of the 19th century. It included visits to a few synagogues and other Jewish cultural and historic landmarks. More than 40 diplomats from 25 countries participated in the tour.
