On 25 November 2023 the Embassy of Bulgaria in Islamabad hosted a Gala Charity event in support of the Lighthouse – a project aimed at providing a safe home, food, healthcare and education to orphaned children in Pakistan. The event was organized by the Founder and Executive Director of the Lighthouse Mrs. Amina Wattoo Kasuri under the umbrella of the independent nonprofit organization Mahmud Ali Kasuri (MAC) Welfare Trust.

In her welcome speech Ambassador Irena Gancheva emphasized the importance of upholding the rights of every child, and in particular the rights of disadvantaged children and orphans. She further elaborated that this is a common responsibility and a key factor for positive transformation and progress of every country and society. In this context the Ambassador highly appreciated the idea behind the Lighthouse project - to create a safe environment for Pakistani orphans through programs for education, sports and art, and most of all by giving them the opportunity to grow and develop as individuals in an atmosphere of love, support and kindness.

Ambassador Gancheva expressed the Bulgarian government’s unwavering support for the protection and promotion of the rights of the child, a true reflection of which are the Bulgarian commitments and priorities during Bulgaria’s forthcoming membership in the UN Human Rights Council for the term 2024-2026. The Ambassador also used the opportunity to express gratitude for the valuable support of the Government of Pakistan for the election of the Republic of Bulgaria to the UN Human Rights Council.
