On 4 August 2023 the Embassy of Bulgaria in Islamabad hosted a meeting with the successful female mountain climber Silvia Azdreeva who made history by becoming the first Bulgarian woman to scale K2 (8 611 m) in Pakistan – the second-highest and one of the most difficult and dangerous peaks in the world. Silvia Azdreeva reached the summit of K2 on 27 July 2023.

Ambassador Irena Gancheva extended congratulations on this historic achievement and emphasized that it not only contributes towards increasing the prestige of Bulgaria in international mountaineering and climbing, but also serves as an incredible example of the strong spirit and the important place of women in society.

Silvia Azdreeva shared her experience during the expedition in Pakistan. She expressed pride in being the first Bulgarian woman to scale K2 and to promote through her achievements the significant role that women play in today’s world.
