On the occasion of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slavic Literature, on 24 May 2024 the Consul General Vladislav Spasov visited the East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai. He was received by the ECNU President Prof. Qian Xuhong, with whom he discussed future prospects for cooperation between the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and ECNU. In 2023 ECNU ranked 1st between Chinese universities in software engineering, followed by Tsinghua University and Beihang University.

The Consul General met afterwards students and professors from the School of Politics and International Relations of ECNU. He presented the achievements of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius from the perspective of Europe’s medieval history, the creation of the Glagolitic script and its transformation into the Cyrillic alphabet in the First Bulgarian Kingdom at the end of 9th and the beginning of 10th century AD. He underlined the significance of the Golden Century of Bulgarian Literature for the development of Slavic nations. The Consul General shared information on the achievements of the Department of Cyril and Methodius Studies of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in the last decade.  

With reference to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and China in 2024, Vladislav Spasov presented some major events of Bulgaria-China relations and answered questions from the audience.
