In her statement during the United Nations Security Council’s Arria-formula meeting, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, underscored the direct relevance of freedom of navigation and maritime security to Bulgaria as a Black Sea country.
“Bulgaria supports coordinated international efforts to protect commercial shipping and navigational rights, including the right of transit passage through straits used for international navigation, in full accordance with international law and UNCLOS,” Ambassador Karadjova stated.
These principles are particularly important with regard to the Strait of Hormuz—a key international maritime route whose safe and free use is essential to global trade, energy supplies and international security.
Ambassador Karadjova stressed that attacks against commercial vessels, the mining of maritime routes and other forms of unlawful interference with navigation are unacceptable.
Bulgaria remains committed to diplomatic efforts to prevent further regional confrontation and to resolve disputes through dialogue and peaceful means.
