During the Eleventh Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Ambassador Gergana Karadjova delivered national statements during the meetings of Main Committees II and III.

Bulgaria reaffirmed its strong commitment to nuclear non-proliferation, international security, and a rules-based international order. Bulgaria does not develop, possess, or trade in weapons of mass destruction.

Ambassador Karadjova emphasized that Bulgaria strongly supports the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency and underlined that the use, threat of use, or proliferation of nuclear weapons is unacceptable.

Bulgaria calls for the return of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to the lawful control of Ukraine, urges diplomatic solutions to the Iranian nuclear issue, and calls on the DPRK to comply with its international obligations.

Bulgaria actively promotes nuclear safety, security, and innovation, including through participation in initiatives on nuclear harmonization and standardization, as well as the development of small modular reactor (SMR) technologies.

“The country also welcomed the Nuclear Energy Summit, reaffirming that nuclear energy remains a safe, reliable, and low-carbon source of electricity. We call on all States to strictly adhere to international nuclear safety and security instruments,” Ambassador Gergana Karadjova further stated.
