American citizens holding regular passports can reside in the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria without a visa for up to ninety days in any six-month period.

The visa application is free!

The visa application processing charge is indicated in the Charges section.

The Consular Section does not collect any additional charges other than the application processing charges indicated for the separate visa categories and has not authorised any third parties to provide such services!

The visa issuance charge shall be paid upon submission of the visa application and the accompanying documents. Payments shall be made either in cash or through a Money Order. No personal cheques or credit/debit cards are accepted.

The Consular Section has the powers to require additional documents and to interview the applicant, at the discretion of the consular officer. No visa application processing charges will be refunded in case of refusal!

Visa applications may not be submitted earlier than 3 months prior to the intended date of the trip!


No transit visa shall be required of third-country citizens provided that they present any of the following documents:
- a Schengen (uniform) visa, a long-stay visa, a residence permit issued by any of the countries of the Schengen area
- national short-stay visas, long-stay visas and residence permits issued by Romania.
