Ceremony for raising the Ukrainian flag to mark the 4th anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine

16 March 2026 News

On March 6, 2026, the Consulate General of Ukraine in New York held a flag-raising ceremony at Bowling Green, located at the "Charging Bull" site in Lower Manhattan. The event was originally scheduled for February 24 to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation however, due to severe weather conditions, the ceremony was rescheduled for early March.

The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps in New York and representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora. The Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in New York was represented by Consul Daniela Sirakova, who reaffirmed Bulgaria's solidarity with the Ukrainian people and expressed hope for a swift end of the war.

In his remarks, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, H.E. Andrii Melnyk, drew a parallel to the American struggle for independence 250 years ago. He emphasized that Ukraine is currently fighting for the same fundamental values: the right to sovereignty, self-determination, and the refusal to allow an imperial power to dictate its future.

All speakers underscored that the people of Ukraine has the right to live in peace and security within their internationally recognized borders.
