At the Piskaryovkoye Memorial Cemetery was held a mourning ceremony for the laying of wreaths and flowers, in conjunction with the beginning of the blockade of Leningrad.

The heads of the city and region, militaries, civilians, students, veterans and the Governor Georgy Poltavchenko attended the ceremony. Diplomats from United States, Britain, China, France, Germany, Japan, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Ukraine, Hungary, Estonia, Lithuania and Bulgaria were part of the ceremony.

They were welcomed by the Chairman of the Committee for External Relations Evgeny Grigoriev.
