To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Embassy of Bulgaria in Islamabad took part in the “Ambassador for the Day” Initiative on March 8th, 2024. The event was organized by the High Commission of Canada in cooperation with the diplomatic missions of Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, the UK and the Delegation of the European Union to Pakistan. It aimed to provide the opportunity for six Pakistani young women to assume the role of Head of Mission of the participating countries and experience the day-to-day responsibilities of this important role.

Ayesha Taimoor, a 21-years old Pakistani student of English Language and Literature at NUML, became the Bulgarian “Ambassador for the Day”. Ayesha stepped into the shoes of Ambassador Irena Gancheva and met with the Bulgarian team of diplomats at the Embassy.

In addition to visiting their respective embassies, the “Ambassadors for the Day” attended a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, where they engaged with female diplomats and other official representatives. The young women participated also in a collaborative cultural diplomacy event at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), featuring multiple displays, including a photo exhibition of Bulgarian sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The “Ambassador for the Day” Initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the diplomatic missions of Canada, the EU, Austria, Bulgaria, Germany and the UK in Islamabad to engage with Pakistani partners and communities in order to achieve the overarching goals of the protection of human rights, promotion of equal opportunities and empowerment of women and girls.
