25 May 2022 News

On the occasion of 24 May – Day of the Holy Brothers St. Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian education and culture, and of the Slavic literature, the Embassy of Bulgaria in Islamabad hosted a musical event with the participation of the popular Bulgarian kaval player Zhivko Vasilev. The event was attended by Pakistan Foreign Office officials, including Additional Secretary Europe Dr. Israr Hussain and Director General Foreign Service Academy Ambassador Zahid Nasrullah Khan, foreign Ambassadors and other members of the Diplomatic Corps in Islamabad, as well as Pakistani representatives of the culture and academic circles.

During his visit in Pakistan Zhivko Vasilev will represent Bulgaria in the first ever project of the Association of European National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC) Cluster in Islamabad under the title „Heritage Live – Music of Pakistan“. The project brings together artists from several EU Member States and indigenous Pakistani musicians to collaborate within a one-week music residency. It aims at fostering the inter-cultural dialogue and preserving the rich musical heritage of Pakistan by supporting traditional musicians, including women and Afghan refugees from different parts of the country to develop their skills, improve their socio-economic condition and pass on their musical knowledge to the next generations.

The Bulgarian participation in „Heritage Live – Music of Pakistan“ is organized by the Embassy of Bulgaria in Islamabad with the kind support of the State Institute for Culture to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.
