Bulgarian Movie “Mother” to be screened in Ottawa on Nov. 21 as part of 2023 EU Film Festival

The Bulgarian film Mother (2022) by director and producer Zornitsa Sofia will be screened on November 21, 2023 at 8:30 p.m. at the Ottawa Art Gallery, Alma Duncan Salon (10 Daly Avenue, Level 3).

The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Ottawa, with the assistance of the National Film Center of the Republic of Bulgaria, chose the film to represent our country in this year's edition of the EU Film Festival in Canada (EUFF), which, in addition to Ottawa, takes place in Toronto and Vancouver. The film is a joint production of Bulgaria, Germany and Croatia and has already won the Best Film Award at the Golden Rose Festival in 2022. The trailer for the film is available here. In Toronto, the film will be shown on November 18 at 8:30 pm at the Alliance Française/Spadina Campus and can be seen for free by those who do not wish to reserve a specific seat, and in Vancouver on November 26 at 8:20 pm at the Cinematheque Pacifique.

Audiences in Ottawa will be able to watch one film from all 27 EU member states, and on the last day - the Ukrainian film "Luxembourg, Luxembourg". The entire screening program can be found here. The live part of the festival will take place on the following dates:

-Ottawa: November 16-26 at the Art Gallery;

-Toronto: November 15-December 1 at Alliance Française/Spadina Campus;

-Vancouver: November 16-26 at Cinematheque Pacifique.

The virtual part of the festival will take place from December 1-17, 2023 on the Eventive platform. The movie "Mother" can be requested to watch online here.

All movies from the current online edition will be available for viewing from December 1, 2023.

Among the co-organizers of the event are the embassies of the EU member states, the EU Delegation in Ottawa, the Canadian Film Institute, etc.
