During the Eleventh Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations, delivered a national statement.
Bulgaria reaffirmed its strong commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons through a step-by-step, realistic and verifiable approach, grounded in international law and Article VI of the NPT.
Ambassador Karadjova underscored the need for:
• reductions in nuclear arsenals;
• enhanced dialogue on arms control;
• the entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT);
• the commencement of negotiations on a Fissile Material Cut-Off Treaty (FMCT).
Bulgaria expressed serious concern over escalating nuclear rhetoric and the erosion of international security, calling for responsibility, restraint, and full compliance with international commitments.
“We support the achievement of a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace, based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Ambassador Gergana Karadjova also stated.
