The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United Nations in New York marked the National Liberation Day with a reception held on 4 March 2019.

 

In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Georgi Panayotov, Permanent Representative, stressed the significance of the Liberation and of the reestablishment of the Bulgarian statehood for the development of our country.

He highlighted the importance of freedom and especially the freedom to choose and to take and uphold independent decisions as a fundamental right and ultimate goal of existence.

In the context of the role of the tradition of preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the peoples of the world and as an example of multilateralism as a basis of understanding and mutual respect, he pointed out the listing of Martenitsa in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage by four countries from the region - Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and North Macedonia.

 

The event was attended by more than 300 guests, permanent representatives and diplomats of Member States, as well as senior UN Secretariat and UN Agencies officials.
