On March 19, 2026, Ambassador Angel Bandzhov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, visited the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
Ambassador Bandzhov was welcomed by the Director-General of CERN, Professor Mark Thomson, the Director for Stakeholder Relations, Ursula Basler, and the Advisor for Relations with Associated Member States, Christoph Schäfer.
Director-General Thomson presented the mission and activities of CERN. The contribution of the Republic of Bulgaria to CERN since joining the Organization in 1999 was highly appreciated. The Republic of Bulgaria is among the leading countries regarding CERN's work with schools and physics teachers.
Ambassador Bandzhov emphasized that the Republic of Bulgaria will continue to actively participate in CERN's activities, which are aimed at the scientific progress of all mankind. Ambassador Bandzhov visited Point 5 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), where he also met with members of the Bulgarian community working at CERN.
