Dear visitors of Bulgaria,

We would like to inform you that as per 31.03.2024, in relation to the affiliation of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Schengen area the following changes regarding the accepted documents for foreign nationals to enter the country are applicable:

1) The possessors of Schengen visas, according to Article 2, Paragraph 3 of the Schengen visa Code are no longer required to have used the aforementioned documents in a country that fully applies the achievements of the Schengen law, before entering the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria;

2) The possessors of other type of documents /long stay visas, residence permits etc./, issued by a member-state of the Schengen area are no longer required to have used it for entering the territory of the country of issue, before being used for entering the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria;

3) After the aforementioned date citizens of third countries, possessing national visas for short stay, national visas for long stay and residence permits, issued by the Cyprus authorities will no longer be able to enter the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria using it;

4) National visas for short stay, national visas for long stay and residence permits, issued by the authorities of the Republic of Croatia not later than 31 December 2022 are considered, until the end of its validity as equal to Bulgarian national visas for transit pass and planned stay;

5) National visas for short stay, national visas for long stay and residence permits, issued by the authorities of the Republic of Romania not later than 31 March 2024 are considered, until the end of its validity as equal to Bulgarian national visas for transit pass and planned stay.
