On the occasion of the National initiatives to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Rescue of the Bulgarian Jews during World War II, on the 8th of November 2023 the documentary “49,172” was presented in Helsinki. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Finland.

The film “49,172” traces the dramatic story leading up to the saving of the Bulgarian Jews, as told by people who witnessed the events. It presents unique documents, video and audio material. To make the film the authors had access to government and private archives in the United States, Israel and Bulgaria, including Steven Spielberg's and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem.

In honour of the Anniversary speeches were delivered by Ms. Nina Simova, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Finland and Ms. Hagit Ben Yaakov, Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Finland.
