Ambassador Plamen Georgiev co-authored an article in the major Canadian newspaper "Hill Times" together with the ambassadors of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia in Ottawa on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the accession of these countries to NATO.

The article "NATO stands stronger together 20 years after its biggest expansion" highlights the essential contribution of Bulgaria and the other 6 Eastern European countries to security and democracy, human rights and good governance in Europe. The active participation of those 7 countries in NATO operations and missions is highlighted as an important demonstration of the commitment to shared responsibilities in collective defense and security cooperation. The authors emphasize Canada's significant role in NATO's Eastern Flank.

The launch of the article is in line with the activities of the 2024 Bulgarian National Program for commemorating the 20th anniversary of Bulgaria's accession to NATO, as well as the general message about the participation of the country in the largest and most successful politico-military union in the history and the belonging to the community of shared values, interests and the readiness for mutual defense of the allies.
