About us

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear visitors,

It is my pleasure to welcome you on the website of the Bulgarian Embassy in Canberra.

This site has been created for everyone who wants to obtain information about Bulgaria, its history and culture, its institutions and economy, investment opportunities, travel information and consular services.

Bulgariaand Australia share common values and views on many major issues of global concern. The diplomatic relations between the two countries have been established in 1972. The first Bulgarian Trade Office has been opened in 1963 in Sydney. Between 1964 and 2003 Bulgaria has been represented in Australia by the Consulate General in Sydney. The traditionally friendly ties have been strengthening steadily since the opening of our Embassy in Canberra in 2004.

The efforts of the Embassy are dedicated to further developing all aspects of our bilateral relations with Australia and to offer efficient administrative assistance to the citizens and agencies.

Approximately 20 thousand Bulgarians are living now in Australia and, building a bridge between the two countries, are contributing with their talent, skills and decency to make Bulgaria less unknown and more respected.

More than 13 000 Australiantourists are visiting Bulgaria each year, which is gaining popularity because of its long history, beautiful nature, rich culture, tasteful cuisine and great hospitality.

Our doors will be opened to our compatriots and friends of Bulgaria and all recommendations will be appreciated.

Thank you for visiting our web site.

With best wishes,

Emilia Stefanova-Veleva

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Commonwealth of Australia
