Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mladen Marinov paid a working visit to Sweden on February 3, 2020. Minister Marinov held a meeting with Mikael Damberg, Minister of the Interior at the Swedish Ministry of Justice, Hans Dahlgren, Minister for European Affairs, and Lena Hallengren, Minister for Health and Social Affairs. The bilateral cooperation in the field of home affairs was in the focus of the talks, including the ways to upgrade and improve the cooperation. The ministers also exchanged views on topical issues on the European agenda, such as the fight against terrorism and the future of Europol.

Minister Marinov and his delegation held a meeting at the headquarters of the Swedish Police, where the two sides discussed the possibilities of enhancing the police cooperation in areas such as the fight against transborder crime and human trafficking. The two sides identified concrete steps and measures aimed at improving the exchange of information, which is of key importance for the effective prevention and countering of human trafficking and the other forms of transborder organized crime.

The Bulgarian delegation was received by the Stockholm County Governor and representatives of his administration. The issues related to the vulnerable EU citizens in Sweden and human trafficking were in the focus of the talks.

The Bulgarian delegation also included Chief Commissioner Hristo Terziyski, Director of General Directorate National Police, and Senior Commissioner Lyubomir Yanev, Deputy Director of General Directorate Combatting Organized Crime.
