On 9 October 2024, the team of the Bulgarian Embassy in Cuba met with representatives of the Cuban national wrestling team. Among the guests welcomed at the Bulgarian residence were Mijain Lopez, winner of five Olympic titles from five consecutive Olympics, his coach Raul Trujillo and his personal doctor Vladimir Perez Gainza.

Bulgarian Ambassador Todor Kanchevski welcomed the athletes and expressed his satisfaction with the excellent cooperation between the classical wrestling federations of Bulgaria and Cuba. Pointed out that this is an example of successful collaboration in the light of the Agreement on cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports between the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Bulgaria and the National Institute for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation of Cuba, signed on 18 June 2016 in Havana.

The Cuban national athletes were happy to talk about the Bulgarian hospitality and the excellent conditions provided to them during their preparations in Bulgaria for the Paris Olympics. Also joined the vision of Ambassador Todor Kanchevski that they are a valuable investment of Bulgaria in Cuba and through sports reveal prospects for preserving and developing both the active bilateral cooperation in the field of sports and in other spheres. They took to heart the call to help deepen the sports exchange between the two countries, for which shared having some concrete ideas.

All the guests received the symbol for "Eternal Friends of the Bulgarian Embassy in Cuba”.
