An evening dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews from the nazi concentration camps was held by the Bulgarian Embassy in Havana on January 30, 2019. The event took place in the context of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day January 27.

At the Jewish-Sepharadic Center in the Cuban capital the exhibition The Power of Civil Society. The Fate of the Jews in Bulgaria during the Holocaust was opened.  The social-historical viewpoint to these dramatic events of the Bulgarian history was presented by the exhibition’s author, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Albena Taneva from Sofia University, while Viktoria Atanassova – a witness of the events, told her personal story. Both responded to  questions from the public.

The event theme sparked a lively interest amongst the audience, especially since it is becoming known in Cuba for the first time. The evening ended with a performing of a clarinet duo consisting of students from the National School of Music in Havana.

Among the audience were representatives of the Cuban institutions, the diplomatic corps, the academic and cultural circles, the Bulgarian and Jewish community and the International and Spanish schools in Havana.
