During a meeting with Ambassador Nikolina Kuneva at the Embassy of Bulgaria in Tehran the Deputy Representative of UNHCR in Iran, Mrs. Inna Gladkova conveyed UNHCR’s appreciation for the humanitarian assistance of 50,000 euros made by Bulgaria, as per the decision of the Council of Ministers dated December 15, 2022. The financial contribution to UNHCR will be invested in activities in support of Afghan refugees in Iran under projects in the fields of healthcare and education.

The said donation represents the first voluntary financial contribution from Bulgaria to UNHCR's programs in Iran for supporting the Afghan refugee community in the country. It comes at a time when the humanitarian needs of Afghan refugees keep growing. Our country continues to be part of the efforts of the EU and the international community to meet the most acute humanitarian challenges.
