About us

Dear visitors,

Welcome to the website of the Bulgarian Embassy in Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia.

We hope that you will find in this site interesting information about the history of one of the oldest European countries and the contemporary developments of Bulgaria, about its ancient culture and modern achievements. Here you will find also useful links which will ease your way to the detailed information about tourist, business and education opportunities Bulgaria can offer. Being a member of the European Union Bulgaria has received a new impetus to further develop the longstanding relations for the benefit of the Bulgarian and the Cambodian peoples. In 1979 Bulgaria was the only country in the 9-member UN Credentials Committee who formally opposed the Pol Pot's regime right to represent Cambodia in the UN General Assembly. At the beginning of the 80-ties Bulgaria was one of the first countries to help the newly born Cambodia after the decades of war and the horror of the Red Khmer's regime by providing both political and economic help. Hundreds Bulgarian soldiers and police officers took part in the UNTAC missions in the 90-ties. Several of them sacrificed their young lives for the cause of democracy in Cambodia. Currently Bulgaria, in close cooperation with the other members of the EU family, continues to give its support to the further development of this country.
