Poland supports Bulgaria’s entry into the Schengen area in 2011. This became clear during the meeting between the Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov and his Polish counterpart Radoslav Sikorski. The better coordination on European level on issues of energy security is one of the highlights of the Polish EU Presidency in the second half of 2011. "Bulgaria approves the Polish initiative during its Presidency to emphasize on the European energy policy’’, noted Nickolay Mladenov.
The general conclusion from the meeting was that the EU needs to strengthen the relations with its neighbors to the East and to the South- Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and the Western Balkan countries.
Both ministers agreed that the Euro-Atlantic perspective of the Western Balkans is of key importance to their development and the security of Europe as a whole. They also discussed the new budget framework and the common agricultural policy. During the Polish Presidency, the main decisions for the 7-year budgetary framework of the Union 2013-2020 will be taken.
„Schengen is important for all citizens, this is the real membership in the EU and Poland is fully supporting you on that’’, said the President of the Foreign Policy Committee in the Sejm Andrzej Halitski in his meeting with Nickolay Mladenov.
Later on the Bulgarian minister spoke with the Deputy-Marshal of the Sejm and Chairman of the group for Friendship with Bulgaria Jerzy Zvenderlih.
