Europe Day 2018 in London

11 May 2018 News

Europe Day 2018 was celebrated in London with a reception at the European Commission Representation and a classical music concert at St. John, Smith Square, organised by the EC Representation and the Embassy of Bulgaria in London.

The concert was opened by Ambassador Konstantin Dimitrov and the Acting Head of the EC Representation Christine Dahlby. Ambassador Dimitrov spoke about his hope for a close future relationship between the EU and UK, and also made a brief overview of the successful work on the Bulgarian Presidency‘s priorities. The Ambassador highlighted the positive expectations from the Western Balkans Summit on May 17th in Sofia and spoke about our country’s work on the Multiannual Financial Framework.

Ms. Dahlby shared her thoughts about the meaning of Europe Day and introduced the concert, which explores different musical connections between European nations and was held under the title “Crossing Borders”. The concert included works ranging from German Romantic composer Max Bruch’s Adagio nach keltischen Melodien, performed by the talented Bulgarian British-educated cellist Michael Petrov, to the young, but already highly acclaimed Bulgarian-British composer Dobrinka Tabakova’s composition Bell Tower in the Clouds. The concert was conducted by British conductor Jonathan Bloxham and performed by his Northern Chords Festival Orchestra.
