Low Emissions Zone in London: New requirements for motor vehicles

14 October 2011 News

London municipality’s fresh air measures will see more stringent emission standards for most types of cars from January 3 2012. Trucks, buses and other heavy transport must meet the Euro IV standard, to enter the Low Emission Zone in London without paying a fee. Larger vans, minibuses and other specialized vehicles must meet Euro 3 standards, to move in the same area without paying a fee.

Detailed information on the Low Emission Zone is available at the site www.tfl.gov.uk/lezlondon, where you can check whether your car meets the new standards.

If your vehicle does not meet these standards, you can:

- Instal an approved filter. A list of licensed suppliers is at www.tfl.gov.uk/lezlondon;

- Replace your car with one that meets the requirements;

- Rent a car;

- Pay a daily fee to drive in the zone. For trucks and buses, this is 200 pounds, and for vans and minibuses, 100 pounds.
