Educational Initiative Marking Bulgaria’s Adoption of the Euro

20 February 2026 News

As part of the national information campaign on the Republic of Bulgaria’s adoption of the euro on 1 January 2026, the Embassy organised an open lesson on 15 February 2026 for pupils of the Sluncho Bulgarian Sunday School, dedicated to the adoption of the euro as the country’s official currency.

The lesson focused on the key stages of Bulgaria’s accession to the euro area and the associated economic and societal benefits. The pupils took part in a discussion on the significance of this process as a major milestone in completing Bulgaria’s integration into the European institutional framework. Particular attention was paid to the use of the Cyrillic alphabet on Bulgarian euro coins, symbolising the country’s national identity.

Information about the initiative was also published on the Facebook pages of the Bulgarian Embassy in Pretoria and the Association of Bulgarians in South Africa, helping to raise awareness among the Bulgarian community in the country.
