The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Pretoria informs that as from 1 July 2013 the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Pretoria will start issuing biometric visas, therefore that as from 1 July 2013 all visa applicants will have to appear in person when lodging the application, in order to provide their fingerprints. The fingerprints will be copied for subsequent applications within 5 years.

Exemptions from the obligation of fingerprinting are provided for:

- children under 12;

- persons for whom the collection of fingerprints is physically impossible;

- Heads of State and members of the national Governments, with accompanying spouses, and the members of their official delegation when they are invited by the Bulgarian Government or by international organizations for an official purpose;

- Sovereigns and other senior members of royal family, when they are invited by the BulgarianGovernment or by international organizations for an official purpose. The biometric data will be processed in accordance with the highest data protection standards.
