The opening of 4 mini-projects in region Shirak

On 16.09.2021 Ambassador of Bulgaria to Armenia Mr. Kalin Anastasov visited the “Women for Development"  NGO in Gyumri. The purpose of Mr. Ambassador's visit was his participation in the official opening ceremonies of 4 business projects based in Arpeni, Tsoghamarg and Anushavan communities in Shirak region. The mini-projects were financed and implemented within the project “Economic empowerment of vulnerable young rural women in Shirak region through entrepreneurship and enlargement of self-owned businesses” under the Official Development Aid program of Bulgaria.

The first ambassador visited the office of the non-governmental organization, where he had the opportunity to get acquainted with the activities of the organization, in particular with the results of the project. The overall goal of the project was to increase the entrepreneurial skills, to grow the economic opportunities and to create income sources for young rural women through establishment or enlargement of private-owned small businesses.

Welcoming Mr. Amb., Gohar Markosyan, President the NGO, thanked the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria, represented by Mr. Kalin Anastasov for the opportunity provided for the implementation of the project aimed at economic empowerment and development of entrepreneurship of rural women in Shirak region.

The delegation,  consisting of Amb. Anastasov, the representatives of the NGO and local authorities and other guests, moved from the NGO office to Arpeni community, where the first mini-project was implemented. In Arpeni, Mr. Ambassador took part in the opening ceremony of the "Strawberry House" greenhouse and got acquainted with the carried out activities.

The next stop for the guests was the Tsoghamarg community, where guests took part in the official opening ceremonies of the "Green Oasis" greenhouse and the "Violet" dried fruits factory. The last stop was the Anushavan community, where, in the frameworks of the project, the "Sweet Areg" confectionery factory is successfully established.

In all communities, the beneficiaries organized a demonstration of their own products. The guests were warmly welcomed with hospitality typical only for Armenia.

 Summarizing the obtained results and impressions, Mr. Anastasov thanked the project beneficiaries and NGO for the successful and responsible work. Mr. Amb. highlighted his satisfaction and the readiness of the Embassy for further cooperation for the benefit of rural communities in Shirak region.

Mr. Anastasov as well visited the youth centers in Tsoghamarg and Anushavan. He was invited to the Anushavan School of Arts, where he was informed about other programs and youth initiatives run by the NGO.

The opening ceremonies were attended by local government officials, community leaders, school principals, local media representatives and community residents.
