03 June 2020 News

On June, 3rd ambassador Maria Pavlova handed over to the First Deputy Minister of health of Armenia Mrs. Anahit Avanesyan humanitarian aid in the form of medical consumables provided by the Bulgarian government to the Armenian government and the Armenian people to tackle the coronavirus pandemic in Armenia.

The humanitarian aid consists of 500 sets of protective medical consumables for front-line medical personnel in healthcare institutions, including medical gowns, goggles and helmets. All medical supplies, providing full protection against infections and pathogens, are produced by Bulgarian companies, and are designed for multiple uses (can be washed up to 50 times). They meet the EU standards for medical protection and are compatible with the Armenian climate conditions.

In her speech the Bulgarian ambassador highlighted the global nature of COVID-19 pandemic and the need for all countries to come together and help each other to overcome the consequences. “Despite our own difficulties, we stand by our Armenian friends and are committed to supporting you”, pointed out the Bulgarian ambassador. Bulgaria and Armenia are traditional friends and enjoy long-term historical and cultural relations.
She emphasized that the donation is being made as part of the EU-wide “Team Europe” initiative directed towards strengthening the capacity of the health sector in Eastern Partnership countries, including Armenia. It is also envisaged to help them cope with the socio-economic consequences of the crisis. The Bulgarian ambassador recalled the motto of the first Bulgarian presidency of the EU Council, namely “Together we stand strong” and its relevance in the present context.

Deputy Minister Avanesyan warmly thanked the Bulgarian government for its valuable donation, which comes at a right time to help strengthen the capacities of the health sector. She expressed her appreciation for the efforts and active involvement of the Bulgarian ambassador.
