"Mythological Reminiscences. Inspirations from a Journey" – an Exhibition of Sculptures and Paintings by Mario Konov and Marieta Konova
The Mission Gallery, part of the State Institute for Culture under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is pleased to invite you to the opening of the joint exhibition by artists Marieta Konova and Mario Konov, titled "Mythological Reminiscences. Inspirations from a Journey," which will be on display from October 9 to October 30, 2024. The official opening will take place on October 9 at 6:00 PM.
The exhibition is inspired by two main themes, intertwined in the works of both artists. Marieta Konova presents the cycle "Inspirations from a Journey," where she creates paintings inspired by the architecture and atmosphere of Poland. Her travels to Warsaw and Łódź reveal the harmony between the old and the new, the past and the present, which she interprets through oil painting. Her works, created over the past two years, symbolize art as a bridge between people and cultures.
Mario Konov will present the cycle "Mythological Reminiscences," inspired by ancient Hellenistic sculpture. His works, including “Trojan Horse,” “Orpheus,” “Phoenix,” and “Achilles,” were created specifically for the interior space of the Mission Gallery. They offer a contemporary interpretation of mythological and historical figures, with the artist striving for abstraction and semantic depth through his compositions.
Marieta Konova graduated from the Veliko Tarnovo University "St. Cyril and St. Methodius" with a degree in Painting under Prof. Nikolai Ruschukliev and has extensive experience as both an artist and teacher. Her works have participated in numerous international and national exhibitions, and she is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and a project leader in the field of arts. Throughout her career, Konova has held 21 solo exhibitions and contributed to the decoration of five Orthodox churches in Bulgaria with ornamental compositions. Her works are part of collections in various art galleries and institutions in the country.
Mario Konov graduated in Woodcarving from the Secondary Specialized School of Applied Arts in Tryavna and has rich experience in contemporary sculpture and church woodcarving. He has participated in various exhibitions and projects in Bulgaria and abroad and is the recipient of prestigious awards, including the award from Veliko Tarnovo University and Veliko Tarnovo Municipality at the national exhibition "ArtRozaliada." As a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and the International Association of Plastic Arts, Konov is recognized for his achievements in church art and restoration.
The exhibition is organized in partnership with the Polish Institute in Sofia.
