Bulgarian Participation in the Fourth European Film Festival in Pakistan
On 16 November 2025 Bulgaria was represented at the Fourth European Film Festival in Pakistan with screenings of the films „Omelette“ and „The Trap“ by director Nadejda Koseva in Karachi, Sindh Province. The Bulgarian participation, organized with the support of the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, attracted strong interest from the Pakistani audience.
Ambassador Irena Gancheva attended the festival in Karachi as chief guest. In her remarks to the viewers, she highlighted the important role of cinema as a meeting place and a bridge that connects cultures, stimulates dialogue, and deepens mutual understanding among people, regardless of their national, ethnic or geographic background. Special attention was given to the important themes and messages in the two Bulgarian films - namely that behind every social challenge lies a human story that deserves empathy and understanding, and that our choices - ethical, personal and societal - have an impact on the environment in which we live. Therefore, showing responsibility and the courage to make the right decisions is of key importance. Ambassador Gancheva expressed hope that the films „Omelette“ and „The Trap“ would encourage reflection on everything that unites us in our pursuit of a better life for our families and our communities.
The European Film Festival is organized by the Delegation of the European Union with the support of the embassies of the EU Member States in Pakistan. This year’s fourth edition is taking place from 7 until 23 November 2025, covering three major cities - the federal capital Islamabad, Karachi (Sindh Province) and Lahore (Punjab Province). The event enjoys popularity and attracts a large number of visitors from various age groups across all parts of the country.
