Exhibition “The Power of Civil Society: the Fate of Jews in Bulgaria” opens in New York

In the framework of the United Nations General Assembly 65th session, on 21 September the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov opened in the hall of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York the exhibition “The Power of Civil Society: the Fate of Jews in Bulgaria during the Holocaust”, prepared by the State Institute for Culture jointly with the Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Sofia “St. Kliment Ohridski”.  
In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasised the historic significance of Bulgaria’s position, and declared that it constituted a basis for long-term relations of friendship between the Jewish people and this country. Bulgaria’s minister of foreign affairs Nikolay Mladenov, Bulgaria’s ambassador to the United States Mrs Elena Poptodorova, representatives of the official Bulgarian delegation, the World Jewish Congress, and the World Union of Jewish Students were also present at the exhibition. The American Jewish Committee and B’nai B’brith are partners to the event.  
The exhibition will be shown in other towns of North America.
