On the occasion of the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian Alphabet, Education and Culture and of Slavic Literature, on May 24, 2025, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Madrid presented the photo-documentary exhibition  "Bulgaria and Mosaics". The exhibition is part of the "Traveling Exhibitions" program of the State Institute for Culture, which aims to present the cultural and historical heritage of Bulgaria around the world.

The exhibition "Bulgaria and Mosaics" was realized by the "Balkan Heritage" Foundation for the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria in 2023 in cooperation with Bulgarian museums, non-profit organizations and specialists in the field of art history and archaeology. The exhibition presents selected details of ancient, medieval and contemporary mosaics, which highlight the rich and diverse mosaic heritage of Bulgaria. Among the most notable exhibits are samples from Antiquity (2nd – 6th centuries) and the 20th century, periods of the heyday of mosaic art in Bulgaria.

The exhibition includes two components – printed and digital. The printed component contains 26 panels, each of which is equipped with a QR code leading to the digital part of the exhibition. On the website accompanying the exhibition, visitors can find additional information about the presented objects, their location on Google Maps, as well as popular science texts about the history of mosaics and methods for their preservation.

“Bulgaria and the Mosaics” has already visited a number of prestigious locations around the world, including Rome, Budapest, Norway, Slovakia and Tunisia, and continues to enjoy great interest among the international audience. The exhibition is an important element of Bulgaria's cultural diplomacy and aims to increase the visibility of our mosaic heritage in a global context, as well as to provoke interest in the preservation and study of this exceptional cultural resource.
