20th April marked the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. On occasion of this anniversary, the Union of Bulgarian Composers has published a new collection titled “Revival Songs,” which contains nine traditional Bulgarian songs dedicated to the importance and glory of late 19th century Bulgarian history. With this publication, the Union of Bulgarian Composers aims to contribute to the development of Bulgarian statehood, the preservation of national memory, and the integration of our country into a culture of European nations. The publication was provided for free use to the State Cultural Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The collection is compiled by renowned Bulgarian composer and educator Mr. Stefan Iliev. It contains five texts by Dobri Chintulov, as well as the well-known “Song of the Panagyurishte Insurgents” and “Radetzky /The Quiet White Danube/” by Ivan Vazov and “The Hanging of Levski” by Hristo Botev. The harmonizations are done by Petar Boyadzhiev, Asen Karastoyanov, Parashkev Hadzhiev, Nikolay Kaufman, and Nedelcho Kisimov.
