For a Fifth Consecutive Year the State Institute for Culture Support the Master of Art Film Festival
In 2025, the Master of Art film festival, dedicated to documentary art cinema, celebrates its 10th anniversary. In the period from February 7 to 27, fans of the seventh art in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Stara Zagora will have the opportunity to enjoy 50 impressive films.
The festival will open on February 7 at the Lumiere cinema with the French film My Way, which will also kick off the regional editions in Plovdiv and Varna on February 13. The program includes international competition titles in categories such as architecture, design and fashion, fine arts, literature, music and dance, theater and cinema, photography, video art and the special section “Art and Power”. Viewers will have the opportunity to watch documentaries about legendary personalities such as Charlie Chaplin, Van Gogh, Picasso, Mies van der Rohe, Banksy and other influential figures in the art world.
The State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs is a partner of the festival for the fifth consecutive year and provides the award for the best Bulgarian documentary film.
The Bulgarian proposals in the competition program this year are three: “Maestro Willy Kazasyan” directed by Deyan Rusev from the series “BNT presents”, which reveals the life and work of the exceptional jazz musician, conductor, composer and pianist Willy Kazasyan; “Vasko and the Violin” directed by Lora Krumova and Maria Yotova – a film about the child prodigy of communist Bulgaria, whose life goes through many challenges; the film “Hidden Marks” directed by Georgi Toshev, which presents Bulgaria’s national participation in the 60th Venice Biennale of Art in 2024.
The strengthening partnership between the State Institute for Culture and the Master of Art Film Festival confirms the institute's commitment to presenting and promoting quality Bulgarian documentary films, both in Bulgaria and around the world.
