Premiere of the Bulgarian Documentary Film about the artist Alzek Misheff “Flying with Fins” in Milan
On November 7, 2024, the prestigious Anteo Palazzo del Cinema in Milan hosted the Italian premiere of the Bulgarian documentary film „Flying with Fins“, dedicated to the remarkable life and work of artist Alzek Misheff. Directed by Maria Averina and produced by Martichka Bozhilova and the production company Agitprop, the film explores the artist’s profound search for meaning, revealed through striking scenes from Italy and Bulgaria. The film showcases Misheff’s artworks, performances, electronic music experiments staged in historic venues, and moving reunions with people and places in Bulgaria, which the artist visits after a 50-year separation.
The event, organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Milan, attracted a large audience of Italian and Bulgarian citizens, as well as admirers and friends of Mishev. General Consul Ana Pasqualeva expressed her joy at hosting the screening under the auspices of the Consulate and highlighted Mishev’s significant contribution to the promotion of Bulgarian art and culture worldwide.
The film has already received acclaim on the Bulgarian cultural scene, having won the award for Best Bulgarian Documentary Film at the Master of Art Film Festival 2024, sponsored by the State Institute for Culter under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On the Institute’s recommendation, Alzek Misheff was also awarded the prestigious “Golden Age” prize for 2024 by the Ministry of Culture, recognizing his exceptional contribution to Bulgarian culture and the development of cultural cooperation.
The screening in Milan concluded with applause and an engaging discussion, during which audience members posed questions to Alzek Misheff and director Maria Averina. Following the success of the premiere, the film will be screened in Rome on November 26, where it is eagerly awaited by both Bulgarian and Italian audiences.
