On October 14, the solo exhibition “The Unnamed Between” by Bulgarian artist Elsa Artamontseva opened at the packed “Mission” Gallery at the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Artamontseva is an artist with a long-standing career in Germany, where she lives and teaches actively. She graduated in Mural Painting from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, and among her spiritual and creative inspirations are great names such as Ivan Vukadinov.

The event was held in cooperation with the Embassy of Germany in Sofia as part of the efforts to develop cultural diplomacy and within the framework of the initiatives dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The official opening was made by Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova, director of the institute, who greeted the guests and expressed her joy at the opportunity to present such a significant author: “It is a great honor for us to show such a different, profound and inspiring exhibition. Elsa Artamontseva’s art is philosophically rich, enigmatic and highly impactful.”

Among the special guests of the evening were H.E. Irene Maria Plank, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, diplomats, the author’s colleagues from the artistic circles, as well as fourth-year students of the New Bulgarian University with lecturer Anzhela Georgieva.

Ambassador Plank emphasized that Artamontseva’s works carry deep symbolism and explore the boundaries between the material and the spiritual: “For me, as the German ambassador, it is particularly important that Ms. Artamontseva’s art not only builds a bridge between the visible and the invisible, but also connects Bulgaria and Germany through the common language of culture.”

During the event, Dr. Tsvetana Ivanova from the Re Foundation – one of Artamontseva’s students – also shared personal impressions of her as a teacher and inspirer: “Each of us has a teacher who has helped us see the world in a new way. Elsa is exactly that kind of person – uncompromising in the search for truth in both art and life.”

At the end of the evening, Elsa Artamontseva herself thanked the audience and the organizers, expressing her joy that after many years of creative work in Germany she has the opportunity to show her works in Bulgaria again.

The exhibition “The Unnamed Between” will be available to visitors at the “Mission” gallery until October 31, 2025, during the working hours of the State Institute for Culture.
