The Gallery “Mission” at the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs presents the exhibition “The Unnamed Between – Encaustic Experiments” by visual artist Elsa Artamontseva. The exhibition explores the possibilities of encaustic – an ancient technique in which colored wax builds saturated, multi-layered textures.

In the exhibition, the wax layers become a field for dialogue between opposites: light and shadow, softness and hardness, movement and stagnation, transience and stability. Organic forms intertwine with sacred geometric structures – some flow and fall apart, others bring a sense of inner order and concentrated presence. Symbols such as fish, flowers, eyes and labyrinths appear not as illustrations, but as carriers of meaning – signs that lead the viewer to inner and universal truths.

Through the combination of wax and semi-precious stones, Artamontseva creates a material and emotional tension that does not generate conflict, but harmony – living, changing and full-blooded. Wax brings memory, time and form, and stone – stability and silence. Together they build the “space between” – a state of rest in which everything exists simultaneously.

“I like the concept of working through layers to discover what I call true fullness in terms of consciousness” – shares the author.

Elsa Artamontseva’s work is an exploration of the hidden spiritual reality behind the visible. In her work, she relies on the universal language of symbols – fish, mudra, circle, eyes, labyrinth – which become keys to different levels of perception. For her, intuition is a guiding principle – an inner knowledge that connects matter and spirit, the personal and the cosmic.

Her visual language is influenced by her experience as a monumental artist – rich textures, dynamic plasticity and a sense of scale are part of her authentic creative approach. Artamontseva experiments with mixed techniques to achieve a balance between the material and the idea, between inner peace and outer form. The balance she explores in her works is not only an aesthetic principle, but also a philosophical position – the wisdom of life, stability in movement, peace in dynamics.

The event is organized with the kind partnership of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sofia.
