Exhibition of Contemporary Graphics from Asia Opens at the Mission Gallery
On March 7th, the exhibition "Contemporary Graphic Art from Asia" opened its doors at the Mission Gallery, part of the 9th International Graphic Arts Triennial in Sofia, which periodically presents an impressive panorama of contemporary graphic art with its various directions, national schools, and global trends, universally relevant to the entire graphic world.
The exhibition includes selected works by authors from Iran, China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Special attention was paid to the graphic artists from Asia, whose works arrived in Sofia nearly a month late, which significantly shortened their meeting with the Bulgarian public. The works will be available for viewing in the future catalog of the triennial, and the current exhibition in the "Mission" gallery is another additional opportunity for connoisseurs to meet the mastery of the Asian graphic school.
Snezhana Yoveva, director of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, opened the exhibition, stating: "Graphics can be that ambassador that builds connections between us and reveals how beautiful and diverse the world we live in is. It is an exceptional honor for us to work with the Union of Bulgarian Artists - the main driving force of graphic art in our country."
Albena Spasova, curator of the exhibition and organizer of the 9th International Graphic Arts Triennial, added: "For years, the Union of Bulgarian Artists and the State Institute for Culture have had a joint project called 'Graphics - Ambassador.' This exhibition is part of that project because it truly shows that within the realm of graphic art, boundaries are conditional."
Among the guests at the exhibition were representatives from various embassies of countries whose artists were featured in the exhibition: China, Vietnam, Japan. Special guests from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China were Fan Yenxiong - First Secretary and Head of the Political Department, and Guan Xin - Cultural Affairs Counselor.
The exhibition includes works by the two winners of the Grand Prize from the last two editions of the International Graphic Arts Triennial in Sofia: Chinese artist Zhang Hui, awarded the Grand Prize in the previous triennial, who already had his solo exhibition in Sofia, from which two graphics have been selected, as well as the winner of the Grand Prize at the ninth edition of the triennial - Taiji Kodama from Japan, whose solo exhibition Bulgarian audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy in three years.
The exhibition "Contemporary Graphic Art from Asia" can be viewed from March 7th to March 29th at the Mission Gallery of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
