The State Institute for Culture Partners with the 11th International Stage Poster Triennial
The State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria is a partner of the 11th International Stage Poster Triennial, which opens on 15 December at 6:00 p.m. at the Union of Bulgarian Artists, Shipka 6 Gallery. The event reinforces Sofia’s position as one of the leading international hubs for stage and cultural poster art, featuring participants from 36 countries and offering free public access to more than 700 posters from Bulgaria and around the world.
The main exhibition of the Triennial presents over 350 posters, while the special theme of this edition, “Literature Is a Stage,” broadens the understanding of the poster as an active carrier of cultural and social messages within a global context.
As part of the Triennial, a specially curated exhibition titled “Connectivity” will also be presented to the general public, realized with the participation of the State Institute for Culture. The exhibition forms part of the cultural programme accompanying Sofia’s Chairmanship of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) (1 July 2025 – 30 June 2026), held under the motto “A Compass toward Stability, Security and Sustainability,” and marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Process.
The international jury of the Triennial comprises prominent figures from the global graphic design and poster scene: Wiesław Grzegorczyk (Poland), Mirko Ilić (Bosnia and Herzegovina/USA), Radoslava Boor (Bulgaria/Czech Republic), Finn Nygaard (Denmark), and Bozhidar Yonov. In addition to selecting the awards of the 11th edition, the jury members will deliver public lectures and take part in professional discussions on the role of the poster in contemporary cultural and social discourse.
The programme of the 11th International Stage Poster Triennial runs from 11 to 16 December and includes exhibitions, lectures, discussion forums, and international participation. Highlights include the exhibitions “Bulgarian Posters with International Awards,” “Face to Face,” “Warsaw Poster in Sofia,” as well as accompanying collections and socially engaged projects.
Special guests in Sofia include organizers of some of the most authoritative international poster events from Europe and beyond, further strengthening the international prestige of the Triennial and its significance for cultural exchange.
The 11th International Stage Poster Triennial is part of the Cultural Events Calendar of the Sofia Municipality for 2025, supported by the Ministry of Culture, and implemented with the cooperation of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Polish Institute, and numerous partners.
