Cultural Policies of the Federal Republic of Germany to be Discussed at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
On October 20, 2025 (Monday) at 6:00 p.m., a public meeting-discussion on the topic "Germany in Dialogue: Cultural Exchange in a European Context" will be held at the building of the Institute for Balkan Studies with the Center for Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBCT-BAS), 45 Moskovska Street.
Special guests and speakers will be H.E. Irene Maria Planck, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Bulgaria, and Dr. Kirsten Hackenbroch, Director of the Goethe-Institut in Sofia.
The event is organized in institutional partnership with the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and is part of the series of public meetings-discussions dedicated to cultural diplomacy in Bulgaria and the Balkans.
The meeting will be opened by the Hon. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alexandra Milanova – Project Manager, Prof. Dr. Rumyana Il. Preshlenova – Director of IBCT–BAS and Ms. Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova – Director of the State Cultural Institute.
During the discussion, the guests will share their experience and vision of contemporary German cultural policies and their place in European cultural relations. The emphasis will be placed on the role of cultural diplomacy as a tool for promoting mutual understanding, tolerance and cooperation in a European and international context.
The initiative is implemented within the framework of the scientific project “Cultural Diplomacy in the Balkans in the 20th and 21st Centuries: Achievements, Problems, Challenges for the Future”, funded by the Scientific Research Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science, and traditionally attracts representatives of the academic community, cultural institutions, diplomatic missions and the general public interested in the cultural dynamics in the region.
