09/12/24

After its successful presentation in various countries abroad, such as Norway, Hungary, and Tunisia, the exhibition "Bulgaria and Mosaics" will be opened on 11.12.2024 at 18:00 at the Architectural Complex "Museum of Religions" in Stara Zagora. The exhibition was realized by the Balkan Heritage Foundation for the State Institute for Cultural under the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria in 2023 in cooperation with Bulgarian museums, non-profit organizations and specialists in the field of art history and archaeology.

The exhibition aims to present the rich and diverse mosaic heritage in Bulgaria through selected details of ancient, medieval and historical mosaics and to ignite the audience's interest in it. The mosaics that the State Cultural Institute is pleased to show through the exhibition, created by different cultures over the past two millennia. The most numerous are those from Antiquity (II-VI centuries) and the 20th century – two eras in which this art flourished and remarkable examples of it were created on the territory of modern Bulgaria.

The exhibition consists of two components: printed and digital. The printed one includes 26 panels, and one of them is dedicated to the mosaic “Dionysian Procession”, exhibited in the Exposition of Regional History Museum-Stara Zagora. Each panel has a QR code that leads to the website representing the digital part of the exhibition. It contains information about the objects, their location and information about the history, examples and practices for observing mosaic art in Bulgaria.
