On December 3, 2024, the photo exhibition "Ancient Treasures of Bulgaria" was opened at the National Museum of World Cultures in Mexico City. The event, organized with the support of the Institute of Balkan Studies with the Center for Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the assistance of the State Institute for Culture under the Minister of Foreign Affairs, continues the successful tradition of presenting Bulgarian cultural heritage around the world.

The exhibition was prepared in implementation of the National Scientific Program "Development of Bulgarian Studies Abroad" and has already been a guest in the program of a number of Bulgarian embassies and partners abroad. The project, which is the work of Prof. Dr. Valeria Fol with photographs by Nikolay Genov, presents impressive images of ancient gold and silver artifacts, including works from the famous Panagyurishte and Valchitran treasures. These exquisite objects, dating back to before the new era, reveal the richness of the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage.

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Rumyana Preshlenova, Director of the Institute of Balkan Studies, and Senior Assistant Professor Dr. Alexandra Milanova, Scientific Coordinator at the same institute. The guests were particularly impressed by the replicas of the famous Panagyurishte and Varna treasures, provided by representatives of the Bulgarian community in Mexico, which complemented the rich visual exhibition. Images of treasures from Kyustendil, Stara Zagora and Veliko Tarnovo also aroused interest, with Prof. Preshlenova presenting each of them in detail and answering visitors' questions.

As a gesture to the National Museum of World Cultures, three luxury editions with information about the ancient treasures of Bulgaria were donated to its library, which will enrich the institution's collection and popularize the Bulgarian cultural heritage among a wider audience.

The photo exhibition will remain at the museum until the beginning of March 2025. The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Mexico is already planning further presentations of the exhibition in other cities in the country, as well as in Central American countries.
