Stones from Perperikon Represent Bulgaria in an Art Project in Luxembourg

29/08/22

On September 1, within the Night of Culture in Esch-sur-Alzette, one of the three European capitals of culture in 2022, the art project "Motherland" will be presented. It sends messages to the audience with soil samples from iconic places in the countries, whose representatives live in Luxembourg.

The first phase - "The Collection" - takes us to different geographical locations with cultural, geological or historical significance. The authors of the project are the artists Sandy Flinto and Pierrick Grobéty, and the coordinator of its creation is our compatriot Gergana Stefanova.

The official poster for the exhibition shows pebbles from the mysterious and sacred city of Perperikon, dedicated to the cult of the Sun God, a symbol of one of the earliest cultures on our lands. The sample and the information used to write the accompanying text were provided by the Bulgarian Embassy in Brussels with the support of the State Institute for Culture at the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The exhibition, located at the Escher Theater Art Gallery at 122, Rue de l'Alzette, L-4010 Esch-sur-Alzette, will open on September 1 at 6:00 p.m. local time and will continue until September 16. Visiting opportunities are from Tuesday to Saturday from 14:00 to 18:00.

"We hope that our compatriots who live in Luxembourg, and why not the Bulgarians in neighboring Belgium, France and Germany, will take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the opening or visit the exhibition in the coming days and feel pride in their roots and belonging to an ancient and rich culture, forming part of the diversity of the world in which we live", note the organizers.
