Minister for Foreign Affairs Stefan Dimitrov met with US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien, who is on a working visit to Sofia to participate in the Second High-Level Conference on Security in the Black Sea within the framework of the International Crimea Platform.

Minister Dimitrov presented to the American diplomat the top priorities of the caretaker government, with the main focus on the preparation and holding of fair and free elections on 9 June.

The two interlocutors discussed priority topics on the shared agenda of our strategic partnership with the United States, including the third session of the bilateral Strategic Dialogue and our country’s admission to the US Visa Waiver Program.

The meeting discussed topical regional and global issues, including consistent support for Ukraine, strengthening security in the Black Sea and the growing tensions in the Middle East. Minister Dimitrov stressed that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has a significant impact on the security and stability of the Black Sea region. Both sides agreed that continued political and practical support for Ukraine is crucial.
