15 April 2024 News

In the framework of the Second Black Sea Security Conference — part of the International Crimean Platform — Foreign Minister Stefan Dimitrov held a meeting with Dr. Tobias Lindner, Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office, who is in Sofia to participate in the forum.

Minister Dimitrov discussed with the German Minister of State the fruitful partnership that Bulgaria and Germany are developing in areas such as security and energy. The two ministers agreed on the need to further develop the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation. Minister Stefan Dimitrov highlighted as very positive the fact that in recent years record values of trade in goods have been recorded between the two countries.

For his part, Dr Lindner pointed out that Bulgaria could count on Germany's full support for Bulgaria's full accession to the Schengen area.

They also discussed the Russian military aggression in Ukraine and the security situation in the Black Sea region, agreeing that the support for Ukraine from European countries should continue as long as necessary.

Stefan Dimitrov recalled that the Bulgarian community in Germany now numbers more than 400 000 people, making it the largest in Europe. That is why the Bulgarian side is counting on the assistance of the German government in order to allow as many Bulgarians as possible to exercise their democratic right to vote on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany in the upcoming elections for the European Parliament and the 50th National Assembly on 9 June 2024.
